What made you become a caregiver?
“I’ve always wanted to help people, especially the elderly, which is why I became a caregiver. This work has deepened my empathy for those in need and enhanced my appreciation for acceptance, compassion, and small acts of kindness.”
Share a powerful moment from your caregiving experience.
“One of the most powerful moments in my caregiving experience involved a patient with dementia. She often asked the same questions throughout the day, and I answered without irritation. As I was about to leave after my shift, she suddenly looked at me with unexpected clarity and said, “I’ll miss you. Take care. I wish you would come next time too.” Despite the repetition and confusion of dementia, this genuine moment of connection and appreciation had a lasting impression on me.”
What improvements do you hope for in future caregiving?
“In the future, several improvements could enhance caregiving. First, there should be better training with comprehensive and accessible programs for caregivers. Additionally, more affordable and available respite care services are needed to support caregivers. Enhanced access to mental health resources and counseling would provide crucial support. Greater public appreciation and recognition for caregivers would also be beneficial. Finally, the development of advanced technology to assist with caregiving tasks could significantly improve the quality of care.”
How can we raise awareness about the crucial role of caregivers?
“Public campaigns can use media and advertising to highlight caregivers’ stories and their impact. Education systems can incorporate caregiving topics into schools and community workshops. Recognition can be given by creating awards and hosting events to honor exceptional caregivers. Community engagement can be enhanced by developing local programs and working with media to feature caregiver stories. Additionally, partnerships with healthcare providers and organizations can promote and support caregivers effectively.”
