Onboarding 5: Before Deployment

Preparing for Your First Shift

This training will walk you through the essential steps to ensure you’re fully prepared for your first shift. From uniform requirements to emergency protocols, we’ll cover everything you need to know.

1. Your Uniform and ID Requirements:

  • Uniform: You’ll be required to wear an approved scrub suit in one of these colors: blue, pink, white, or black. This ensures you maintain a professional appearance while on duty.
  • Identification: Always wear your CareProvide ID badge visibly. This helps clients easily identify you as part of the CareProvide team.
  • Safety Gear: Don’t forget your facemask! It’s essential to protect both you and the clients, especially in healthcare settings.

2. Health and Safety Protocols:

Your safety and the safety of our clients are top priorities. Keep the following protocols in mind at all times:

  • Hand Hygiene: Wash your hands regularly to prevent the spread of germs and maintain a safe environment for both you and the clients.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Use masks and gloves when required, especially when working with clients who may be vulnerable.
  • Know Emergency Procedures: Be familiar with emergency contacts and procedures. This knowledge ensures you’re prepared in case of unexpected situations.

3. Client Care and Interaction:

How you interact with clients is essential for providing high-quality care. Here’s how to approach client interactions:

  • Respect and Inclusion: Respect each client’s unique background and promote an inclusive environment.
  • Personal Hygiene and Infection Control: Follow proper hygiene protocols to prevent the spread of infections. This is crucial for both the client’s and your health.
  • The DIPPS Method: When interacting with clients, always prioritize:
    • Dignity: Treat every client with respect.
    • Independence: Encourage clients to make their own choices whenever possible.
    • Privacy: Respect the client’s personal space and information.
    • Preference: Consider the client’s preferences in care.
    • Safety: Always ensure the client’s safety and comfort.

4. Emergency Procedures:

In case of emergencies or suspected abuse:

  • Immediate Action: Contact Administrative Office at 647.771.2273 right away. This ensures that any issue is addressed promptly, keeping both the client and you safe.

This guide provides the basic principles and protocols to help you feel confident and prepared as you begin your shift with CareProvide Canada. Remember, safety and respect for clients are key to providing excellent care.
