Some people wait to be asked. Others simply step in when they’re needed.
That is what makes Ruth such an important part of the CareProvide Canada team.
Whether it’s accepting a last-minute shift, travelling across Toronto to support a client, or ensuring someone receives the care they deserve, Ruth is always willing to help. Her flexibility, reliability, and positive attitude have made her someone both our team and our clients can count on.
Many of the seniors Ruth supports are living with dementia or recovering from a stroke. She understands that every client is different, and she takes the time to build trust, offer companionship, and provide care that helps each person feel comfortable, respected, and safe.
This month, we’re proud to recognize Ruth for the difference she continues to make, not only through the care she provides, but through the commitment she brings to every shift.

What made you become a caregiver, and how has it changed your view of caring for others?
“I’ve always wanted to help people and make a positive difference in someone’s life. Becoming a caregiver gave me the opportunity to do that every day.
When I first started, I thought caregiving was mainly about helping with daily tasks. As I gained more experience, I realized it’s so much more than that. Every client has their own story, personality, and life experiences. Taking the time to understand those things has taught me to be more patient, more compassionate, and more understanding.
Caregiving has changed the way I look at people. Sometimes what someone needs most isn’t just physical assistance, they need someone to listen, encourage them, or simply be there. Those small moments often mean the most.”
Can you share a powerful moment from your caregiving experience?
“One experience I’ll always remember was spending time with a client living with dementia who often kept to themselves.
Instead of rushing through the day, I slowed down and focused on simply being present. We talked, looked through family photos, and listened to music they enjoyed. Gradually, they became more engaged and started sharing stories about their life.
Seeing them smile and open up reminded me that meaningful connections don’t always come from doing something big. Sometimes, giving someone your time and full attention can brighten their entire day.
Moments like that are why I love being a caregiver.”
What are the biggest challenges caregivers face, and how can we support them better?
“Caregiving can be physically and emotionally demanding. Long hours, balancing personal responsibilities, and supporting people through difficult situations can sometimes lead to burnout.
I think it’s important for caregivers to have opportunities to rest and recharge. Access to respite care, flexible scheduling when possible, and ongoing training can make a big difference. Just as important is knowing that your work is appreciated.
When caregivers feel supported, they’re able to continue providing the compassionate care that clients deserve.”
How can we make people more aware of the crucial role caregivers play in society?
“I think awareness starts with sharing real stories.
When people hear about the experiences of caregivers, clients, and families, they begin to understand how much care, patience, and dedication goes into this profession. Supporting community programs and initiatives that recognize caregivers can also help people appreciate the important role they play.
Caregivers are often working quietly behind the scenes, but the impact they have on people’s lives is significant.”
What improvements would you like to see in caregiving in the future?
“I’d like to see more opportunities for caregivers to continue learning and growing through training and professional development.
I also believe technology can help improve the quality of care. Better communication tools and proactive health monitoring can support both caregivers and clients, making it easier to respond to changing needs while helping seniors remain safe in their own homes.
Most of all, I hope caregivers continue to receive the recognition they deserve. Caring for others is meaningful work, and supporting caregivers ultimately leads to better care for everyone.”
